Dr Frank Ruhl of Blue Ocean Networks presented on the business benefits of Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualisation (NFV) at the SDN & OpenFlow APAC Congress in Hong Kong, June 2014. He also chaired a conference session and ran a debating session on the Business Benefits of SDN and NFV.

This demonstrates the close synergy of SDN and NFV, where SDN service steering in particular becomes a key enabler for NFV.

Nan Chen, the president of the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) outlined the evolution of MEF's Carrier Ethernet standards from the current CE2.0 to CE X which will be based on SDN and NFV virtualisation at the MPLS SDN World Congress 2014. The proposed MEF CE X standard will focus on 3 key trends using SDN and Virtualisation: Dynamic, Assured, Orchestrated networks.
